The Origin Story
From Digital Curiosity to Creative Infrastructure

OSC⚡See (pronounced “Ozzy”) is a real-time control tool that allows artists and technicians to record, edit, and play back OSC commands using a timeline-based interface — designed for immersive shows, audiovisual performance, and complex event control.

The Origin Story — From Digital Curiosity to Creative Infrastructure

The roots of OSC⚡See trace back to the early 1990s, when Rafael Pereyra, still in high school in Lima, Peru, began experimenting with shaders, the demoscene, and mod trackers — exploring early digital synthesis in both sound and visuals. These formative experiments planted the seed for a lifelong journey through audiovisual innovation.

Later, during his Art Direction studies at Toulouse Lautrec (1995–2000), Rafael returned to the visual realm with fresh eyes. He began experimenting with Pixelshox, the precursor to Quartz Composer, Pure Data, Resolume V1.0 creating generative and real-time visuals that blurred the line between programming and performance.

A turning point came when a professional exchange took him to Chile, where he met Luis Barrera, known as Anatómico — a key figure in the Latin American visual scene. This encounter marked the beginning of a lasting friendship and creative partnership. Over two decades, Rafael and Luis have collaborated on countless productions across Latin America, more than 20 years, developing a deep mutual understanding of the intense demands of the audiovisual industry.

From Shared Struggles to Shared Solutions

Throughout their collaborations — especially in numerous editions of Creamfields Chile — Rafael and Luis were confronted time and again with the same challenge: the need for flexible, synchronized show control that didn’t depend on weeks of rendering in traditional editing tools like After Effects and Premiere.

One critical moment came in 2016, when Luis invited Rafael to join the production of the Premios Heat, a fast-paced music award show that demanded exact frame control and creative agility. Inspired by the pressure and limitations of the tools available, Rafael imagined a solution: a system that could control Resolume in real time via a timeline, synchronized with SMPTE, and adaptable to any audiovisual setup.

At the time, Rafael had already been developing custom applications for interactive and immersive installations, using sensors and OSC-based protocols. The idea of building a robust, artist-friendly control system took shape — not as a luxury, but as a survival tool for high-pressure productions.

The Birth and Evolution of OSC See

After years of refinement, OSC⚡See was first tested in beta during Premios Heat 2022, where it proved its value in a complex live environment.

Shortly after, the official commercial version was launched at Creamfields Chile, the same festival where Rafael and Luis had collaborated for years. It was at Creamfields where OSC⚡See truly found its home — not only used behind the scenes, but also adopted as the go-to tool for programming show endings for renowned European companies like 360 Show Designs (Netherlands) and Grand Finale.

Creamfields became both the testing ground and the cradle of OSC⚡See, where the software’s speed, precision, and creative flexibility transformed theory into production reality.
